Delhi Daredevils (DD) registered an unlikely 6-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL match 40 at Delhi on Tuesday.

Delhi Daredevils (DD) registered an unlikely 6-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Indian Premier League (IPL) match 40 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday. The chief architects of their win were Mohammed Shami and the entire batting unit. With this win, DD have climbed two places to find themselves at the sixth spot in the points table. They need to win all their remaining games and then rely on results of other teams to make it to the playoffs. Yet another switch hit from David Warner: The SRH captain has been a terrific proponent of the switch hit and has used the shot on numerous occasions to collect crucial runs. On Tuesday, when DD skipper Karun Nair opened the attack with off-spinner Jayant Yadav to put pressure on the SRH openers (both southpaws), Warner had other ideas. In the third over of the innings, he changed his stance and swept Jayant over the boundary at deep point. Junior Dhawan in the house: In the very next over, local boy Shikhar Dhawan clobbered Chris Morris for 2 fours and a six. Not just the crowd loved it and cheered for him, but there was a special fan in the house. His little son Zoravar was also in the stands and was seen clapping in joy when his dad was on song.

Shami returns! Post a long injury layoff, Shami had made a return to competitive cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17. However, IPL 10 was crucial for him to stake a claim for a Team India berth for Champions Trophy. After being off-colour in the chances he got early on, Shami made the opportunity against SRH count. He first delivered a perfect yorker to Warner to send him packing, and then removed Kane Williamson with a fiery bouncer. Yuvraj Singh special: When SRH were reeling at 92 for 3, Yuvraj took the charge and almost single-handedly guided team to 185 for 3. At one stage he was on 19 from 21 balls. He hammered 51 off his next 20 balls to remain unbeaten on 70 off 41. It was all vintage Yuvraj today. However, his effort went in vain in the end.

Butterfingers DD: Delhi Daredevils were pathetic in the field, as their fielders conceded as many as 13 extra runs. It all started with Morris mis-fielding in the third over. There were overthrows that went for a boundary. Sanju Samson dropped a catch of Yuvraj. Jayant mis-fielded near the boundary ropes, conceding a four. And more. DD were lucky their errors in the field did not cost them the match.

Karun Nair’s 1,000 runs and DD young guns: There was lot of talk about DD’s young guns being supremely talented. However, the Daredevils was failing as the talented players were not clicking as a unit. But on Tuesday, their youngsters came to the party and earned the side a much-needed win. Nair (39 off 20), Samson (24), Rishabh Pant (20-ball 34) and Shreyas Iyer (25-ball 33) scripted the win. In the process Nair also completed his 1,000 IPL runs.
