Following a convincing 2-0 win the just concluded four-match Test series against the West Indies, the former world Twenty20 (T20) champions India fell prey to the reigning world T20 champions West Indies, as they lost a two-match T20I series, following a run defeat in the opening tie on Saturday, while the second tie on Sunday was washed out, as West Indies won the series, at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. Although this is hardly to affect India in the world T20 rankings, it would indeed be heart-breaking for India. Meanwhile, Ayush Gupta presents the highlights of the game. Full Cricket Scorecard: India vs West Indies, 2nd T20I at Lauderhill
Johnson Charles steady knock of 43: The man, who has been terrific form for the West Indies, ever since the ICC World T20 2016, and has managed to carry the good form in almost every format of the game, including the last game, where he scored 79, Johnson Charles, was again the man on Sunday’s tie, as he was the top scorer for the West Indies, in an otherwise dull innings, as he scored a steady knock of 43, and steer West Indies to an average total of 143.
Amit Mishra’s crucial spell of 3-24: On a day with hardly any action, the sole star in the Indian bowling attack was the leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who came in as a replacement for Stuart Binny, and utilised the opportunity to the fullest, as he bowled a crucial spell, thus claiming three wickets for just 24 runs, as his victims included Charles, Dwayne Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite. His spell almost sealed his spot in the T20I side for India for the next few games at least. Full Cricket Updates: India vs West Indies, 2nd T20I at Lauderhill
Mohammad Shami’s firm spell of 2-31: With the West Indies batsmen collapsing like a pile of cards every now and then, the Indian bowlers had a fruitful day, and so had fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who bowled a firm spell, claiming a couple of crucial wickets, including the important wicket of Evin Lewis (7), who scored a ton in the previous game.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s vital spell of 2-11: The star off spinner in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin had his day out as well, as he bowled a vital spell, claiming a couple of wickets for just 11 runs, that included the wickets of Lendl Simmons (19) and Kieron Pollard (13). It was not just that, as he also went on to claim 200 wickets in his entire T20 career, a milestone, he will indeed relish that he achieved on the USA soil, where cricket is scarce.
Jasprit Bumrah’s fundamental spell of 2-26: The Indian fast bowler in the form of Jasprit Bumrah has been on a steady rise ever since his debut in the Indian side in 2016. He again proved his worth on Sunday’s game, when he claimed a couple of wickets again for 26 runs, as his wickets included Marlon Samuels (5), and Andre Fletcher (3). Not just that, he also claimed the most T20I wickets in a single calendar year, as he went past Dirk Nannes’s record of 27 wickets in a single calendar year. Another achievement by an Indian star, who would relish the record that he achieved on the USA soil, where cricket is scarce. Play called off as rain plays spoilsport; West Indies clinch series 1-0
Broadcaster’s technical satellite issue: The prime reason for the match being ending up without a result was an issue face from the broadcasters, due to which they had not been able to get the game started at the scheduled time, thus leading to a 40 minutes delay. The issue was regarding getting a proper satellite link for the match to be broadcasted, as the sources say, while BCCI, who had hired IMG for the media production of the series, provides the feed to Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the series. However, a technical failure led to not getting the proper satellite link, as Star Sports was unable to get proper feed for the match, resulting in global delay of broadcast, therefore resulting in delay of start of the game.
