Kolkata Knight Riders’ golden run and other consecutive T20 wins: Statistical review

KKR under Gautam Gambhir have won 11 matches on the trot, the second-highest by an Indian team.

Kolkata Knight Rider’s (KKR) won their 11th match in a row when they defeated Lahore Lions at Hyderabad in the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20). Bengal is the only Indian team ahead of KKR which has 12 consecutive wins. Varun Arora finds out the record for the most consecutive wins in a T20 match.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 winners KKR’s anthem ‘Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re’ was played out loud when they won against Delhi Daredevils at Feroz Shah Kotla back in May 2014. Since then they have been invincible, they have endured every opponent and also thrashed Kings XI Punjab in the final. Playing in the CLT20 2014, they have already won matches they have played so far and have carried there IPL form to this competition.

Gautam Gambhir has consistently been lauded by his KKR team-mates for his captaincy which has sown impeccable results for the team. Recently, the new entrant in the KKR setup, Kuldeep Yadav praised Gambhir’s attacking captaincy and later Ryan ten Doeschate was in admiration of his captain.

Currently, KKR stand at 11 consecutive wins in T20 cricket which is just one place behind Bengal who have had a winning streak of 12 matches.  On Wednesday, Gambhir’s side will face the winners of the Big Bash League, Perth Scorchers.  The match will give them a boost to move to the next round of the CLT20 but will help them equal with Bengal on this record.

Overall, the record for the highest consecutive wins is held by Sialkot Stallions who won 25 matches continuously before losing to Rawalpindi Rams in the Faysal Bank T20 in 2010-11.
