When we talk of the greatest left-arm pacer in the history of the game, it’s Wasim Akram. While Akram played most of his cricket in the 1980s and 1990s, before him there was Alan Davidson who played in the 1950s and 1960s. These gentlemen have inspired many to follow their footsteps and Mitchell Johnson, who retired from international cricket on Tuesday, will surely be remembered as one of the best from the lot. With 313 wickets, he finished as the third highest wicket-taker among all left-arm fast bowlers in the history of the game.

While the 1990s saw several promising left-arm pacers emerging but fading away due to injuries, the turn of the century saw more from the tribe making their mark. Bowlers like Mitchell Johnson, Zaheer Khan, Chaminda Vaas, Mitchell Starc and others have created major impact for their sides across formats.

Now let’s have a look at some of the most successful left-arm pacers in Test cricket post-2000.

Note: Chaminda Vaas stats are only from the Tests he has played post-2000.

If Johnson single-handedly routed England in the Ashes 2013-14, Zaheer and Chaminda Vaas shouldered their respective team’s pace attack for years, and often numbers don’t reveal it all. Out of these big names, who do you think has been the best left-arm pacer in the 21st century.
