Shane Watson may be a brilliant all-rounder but certainly, he wasn’t too committed enough when he had his mathematics lessons in school. He committed a big blunder during St Lucia Zouks’ match against Jamaica Tallawahs on Sunday.
Watson managed a single off the final ball from Kesrick Williams’ over, the 19th of the innings and started to walk off the field, thinking the innings was finished. Skipper Darren Sammy, who was at the other end, stopped the Australian all-rounder but Watson argued not believing an over was still to be bowled. Despite Sammy’s effort, Watson was left in doubt before the umpire intervened and convinced him on the same, just like he never got convinced with umpire’s decisions and unsuccessfully used up team’s DRS attempts. In hindsight, the Chris Gayle-led Tallawah side would have hoped it to be a 19-over affair because Watson made up for his embarrassing calculation moment by plundering 18 off the final over that was bowled by Rovman Powell, finishing with 42 not out from 17 balls. His innings included five sixes. Later, he bowled figures of 4-0-26-1; the wicket he claimed was of his IPL teammate Gayle. Quite agonisingly, Tallawahs lost the game by 17 runs and Watson was the Man of the Match. READ MORE: Kevin Pietersen takes a dig at Alastair Cook while replying to Shane Watson

The Zouks climbed to the third spot. But seriously, what was Watson thinking? Declaration, perhaps. Glad, Sammy did not allow that and maybe that is why he is regarded highly as a captain. On a serious note, Zouks who will lock horns with Trinbago Knight Riders on Thursday are one of the strongest contenders for the title.
