Brian Johnston, popularly known as Johnners in the cricketing world, was one of the legends of BBC cricket commentary between 1946 to 1993.

Johnston was renowned for his on-air schoolboy humour and puns. Among the books he wrote was “Cricketing Gaffes, Giggles and Cakes” An “Evening with Johnners” was a one-man show that he performed towards the end of his life which was lacked with jokes.

One of his most famous commentary gaffes was when he said: “There’s Neil Harvey standing at leg slip with his legs wide apart, waiting for a tickle” during the 1961 Ashes Test at Headingley.
