After 57 applications, 21 shortlisted and then few interviews, finally the suspense over India’s next head coach has come to end. Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble has been chosen for this high profile job. BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) played a major role in the coach selection process. The committee comprising of greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have played a lot of cricket with Kumble and backed him for the role.

In a career that spanned almost two decades, Kumble was among the best bowlers in the world. With 956 international wickets, Kumble is the India’s most successful bowler. Ravi Shastri, who served as the Team Director for a long time, was another contender for this role and was considered to be among the favourites. Many current Indian cricketers including Test skipper Virat Kohli backed him for the role. However, it was Kumble, who ended up bagging it.
