His father scored tonnes of international runs across the world and earned the moniker ‘Wall’ for his watertight technique, patience and determination. And now junior Dravid has embarked on the same journey of achieving his father’s greatness. Rahul Dravid’s son Samit showed early signs of class when he scored a hundred in an Under-14 tournament ‘Tiger Cup’ for clubs and schools in Bangalore.

Playing at the Loyola school grounds, the bespectacled Samit scored 125 in his side Bangalore United Cricket Club’s 246-run win over against Frank Anthony Public School. He was the second highest scorer after Pratyush G, who scored 143. Samit, 10, had earlier been named the ‘Best Batsman’ in U-12 Gopalan Cricket Challenge last year, where playing for his school Mallya Aditi International his run of scores – an unbeaten 77, 93, and again 77 in the final helped his side win the title.

With the junior Dravid doing great things at the age-group cricket and making a mark for himself, father Rahul must be a proud man. His younger son Anvay too is apparently following in his footsteps and learning the game. Dravid, who is currently the mentor of Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the ninth season of Indian Premier League (IPL) that is currently underway, is also a coach of India’s Under-19 team. He perhaps is in the best position to groom his sons into solid cricketers. For now, let’s not put the young kids under any pressure and let them enjoy their game.
