Darren Sammy slams critics for unfairly targeting “universe boss” Chris Gayle

Gayle's recent interviews have sparked unwanted controversies with the latest being accusations of sexism but long-time friend and his T20 skipper Darren Sammy came to his defence.

Chris Gayle may be one one of the greatest modern cricketers but no less controversial. Gayle’s recent interviews have sparked unwanted controversies with the latest being accusations of sexism against him when he made some lewd comments in an interview with a British daily. Sammy, who was commentating for a brief while in the IPL, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo, “Chris Gayle is the universe boss, a team-mate of mine who I admire and respect. I just think people target Chris for no reason. To me, Chris is one of our cricketing heroes. Earlier his year, Gayle was criticised for asking Australian broadcaster Mel McLaughlin out on a date in a live interview during a BBL match. In the ongoing IPL, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener sparked another controversy when he asked a Times journalist if she had a threesome and revealed other sensational stuff.

“I always support Chris because of what he does on a cricket field. Yes, we have a responsibility to ourselves, and the people who watch us, but sometimes I feel Chris is a target for newspaper headlines,” added the two-time World T20 winning captain.
