Indian Premier League (IPL) is no alien to controversies and there have been instances when spats have turned bad to ugly. If Harbhajan Singh had slapped Sreesanth in the first edition, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli had come very close to exchange blows and if that wasn’t enough Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner superstar Shah Rukh Khan almost created an action packed reel sequence with security officials to get banned from Wankhede Stadium. Even in the previous season, the Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc incident was probably one of the ugliest ones in the cricket history. A report from PTI says that on Saturday after the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Robin Uthappa of KKR and RCB’s Safaraz Khan got into a scuffle. However Match Referee, Javagal Srinath denied this. As reported by PTI, Srinath said, “Nothing of that sort has happened… I’ve not received any complaint.” Even a KKR official rubbished the reports and said, “We’ve not heard anything about it.” According to reports, KKR batsman Uthappa, allegedly had an altercation with the young RCB recruit from Mumbai and it is believed that the former went on to the extent of holding the latter by the collar. It’s also said that the incident happened behind the sight-screen and RCB’s AB de Villiers and Ashok Dinda had rushed to the rescue of the 17-year old cricketer, who has also represented the India under-19 side. There are rumours that Srinath had summoned the KKR batsman, along with the franchise CEO Venky Mysore and de Villiers in a meeting and Uthappa is believed to have sought an apology. However Srinath denied having any knowledge of the same. Though there are no confirmed reports and the whole incident may be a rumour, but with IPL, one can always expect the unexpected.
