English Women’s cricket skipper Charlotte Edwards calls it a day from international cricket after a 20-year long international cricket career. It has been a long journey for the prolific captain who was appointed as the leader in 2005 and has done a terrific job. She successfully led her side to a T20 World CUp win and World Cup win in 2009. What happened when KL Rahul asked, “Baby, grab my bag”
Edwards’ decision seems to be an aftermath of England’s semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup in 2016 where they were defeated by Australia Women. She was the most prolific run-scorer for England in the tournament. She also holds the record for being the longest serving English skipper as he led her side in 200 matches. She featured in 23 Test’s, 191 One Day International’s and 95 T20I’s for England. She was also the first woman cricketer to be inducted in MCC World Cricket Committee. Yograj Singh believes that his curse claimed MS Dhoni’s wicket; to apply as SRH’s ‘curse coach’
Edwards was quoted in a report from bbc.com saying, “”I leave very proud of the standing in which the women’s game is held and of my contribution as a player and captain. It’s the right time for a new captain to lead the team forward.”
As she hung her boots the Twitter world reacted to this and we bring you some pick of the tweets following her retirement here:
