It was surely quite frustrating for former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer when he travelled to Port of Spain all the way from London to watch the fourth Test between West Indies and India which ended in a draw because of rain interruption. Only 22-overs’ play happened on Day 1 after which it kept pouring for the day.
There was no rain on the second day of the match but due to wet outfield and poor arrangements at the stadium, play was not possible for next four days. Engineer was irritated because of this but there was something good coming for him as India’s Test captain Virat Kohli gifted his bat to the former Indian cricketer with which he scored double ton in the first Test against West Indies. As reported by Times of India, Engineer was very happy with Kohli’s gesture and said, “I’m very proud of Virat Kohli. He has presented me with this bat. I never asked for it but he gave it to me as a mark of respect.”
He also spoke about Kohli’s captaincy and praised a lot by saying, “Myself, Sir Gary Sobers and Sir Everton Weekes were upstairs (at the Queen’s Park Cricket Club) when we sent a message to Virat if he had a minute to spare as we wanted to say hello. He and Anil Kumble (coach) came up within two minutes. This is the type of guys they are. They have respect for former Test cricketers. I’m hugely honoured that Virat came up. He is not only a great cricketer, he is a wonderful person as well. I wish him all the best. He is the ideal successor to MS Dhoni who is also my buddy.” ALSO READ: Biopic director Neeraj Pandey reveals an interesting story about prankster MS Dhoni

He further shared an interesting story about Dhoni’s humble nature and added, “When Dhoni introduced his wife to me, he told her ‘This is Farokh Engineer. If he was still playing cricket, I would still be stamping tickets at the Ranchi railway station.’ Dhoni is such a humble man.”

Further, Engineer went on to bash the current West Indies Test side by comparing them with Afghanistan. “Even Afghanistan would give them a run for their money, this West Indies team. I’m not taking away any credit away from India but West Indies cricket is in turmoil. Players like Gayle and Bravo are playing CPL and not Tests. Cricket needs West Indies and West Indies need international cricket. ICC should step in and do something,” said Engineer.
