Ten catchers

There was a catch (no pun intended): the batsmen were out caught by ten different fielders.

The 1967 County Championship encounter between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire at Grace Road was an interesting one: Leicestershire collapsed from 327 for four to 340 (Mushtaq Mohammad taking seven) before Northamptonshire returned the favours, getting bowled out for 211 (Tony Lock took seven) after being 192 for five.

Leicestershire scored some quick runs and setting the tourists 277 before Lock and Jack Birkenshaw ran through them; Lock, leading the hosts, returned match figures of 13 for 118, and that was that.

The intriguing part of the scorecard was Northamptonshire’s first innings, where all ten wickets fell to catches; it was certainly a rare occurrence, but not that exceptional. There was a catch (no pun intended): the batsmen were out caught by ten different fielders — Maurice Hallam, Mick Norman, Brian Booth, Clive Inman, Barry Dudleston, Roger Tolchard, John Cotton, Peter Marner, Terry Spencer, and Lock himself. Poor Birkenshaw was the only one to miss out.
