When Team India left for the Zimbabwean Safari with a young team, the Indian fans were a bit apprehensive about team’s prospects in the series. When they landed there, the opposition coach Makhaya Ntini made a strong statement that his team will put this young Indian team ‘under the carpet’ and teach them a lesson so that India come with a full-strength squad next time onwards. However, the only comforting factor for the fans was presence of MS Dhoni with the team. His experience of marshalling the troups showed when the team whitewashed the hosts in the three-match ODI series. Though he did not get to bat for a single time in the series, his cricketing acumen helped team sail through the waters.
But on Saturday, when the first match of the T20I series was played, team required Dhoni the batsman’s services for the first time on this tour. The skipper, though, faltered when it mattered as India suffered a shock defeat by two runs. With the team requiring eight runs of the last over and Dhoni being in the middle, it was expected to be a cakewalk. But the experience of playing in countless such situations did not count as India fell short eventually. Nobody, simply nobody expected Zimbabwe to win. Even Atul Wassan, the presenter for the post-match ceremony, made a blooper when he almost invited Graeme Cremer for a chat in capacity of the losing captain. The Twitterati too did not mince their words and reacted to this ‘snatching-defeat-from-the-jaws-of-win’ effort of Team India. Some blasted the team, some criticised Dhoni, while others lauded the effort of Zimbabwe team. Check best of such tweets here:

Well done @ZimCricketv in beating India. Often times it comes down to who wants it more. 2day Zim clearly wanted it more. #INDvsZIM

Yes, Dhoni could not take India through today, but what about Rayudu, Pandey,Patel & Dhawan- who all did not show any common-sense.#ZIMvIND — Rajneesh Gupta (@rgcricket) June 18, 2016
Defending 8 runs in final over in T20 is a real big deal, especially with Dhoni in the middle. Well done Madziva!

Big and richly deserved win for Zim. Kept their nerve in a taut climax. India’s run chase haphazard. Defeat will sting Dhoni bad and long — Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) June 18, 2016
So, Mad ZIVA outclassed Dhoni… #ZIMvIND

5th time India have failed to chase a target with MSD remaining not out in a T20I. In ODIs, this has happened just ONCE! #ZIMvIND — Bharath Seervi (@SeerviBharath) June 18, 2016
When I heard Zimbabwe had won a cricket game. #ZIMvIND pic.twitter.com/7ecL4DNvJL

Well done, Zimbabwe. Why can’t you guys play like this everytime? #INDvsZIM — Pramod Ananth (@pramz) June 18, 2016
Well played, @ZimCricketv. Ought to have won one ball earlier, that was absolutely not a wide ball. #INDvsZIM

We can’t expect Dhoni to hit a SIX last ball every time but we can expect him to not leave things till last ball. Amen. #INDvsZIM #ZIMvIND — Suvajit Mustafi (@RibsGully) June 18, 2016
India lost the plot in last 3 overs of each inning, bowling and batting. Inexperienced players hardly an excuse. Zim players very raw too…
