When Team India left for the Zimbabwean Safari with a young team, the Indian fans were a bit apprehensive about team’s prospects in the series. When they landed there, the opposition coach Makhaya Ntini made a strong statement that his team will put this young Indian team ‘under the carpet’ and teach them a lesson so that India come with a full-strength squad next time onwards. Also Read: India vs Zimbabwe first T20I: Five players make India debut; first such instance since 2006

However, the only comforting factor for the fans was presence of MS Dhoni with the team. His experience of marshalling the troups showed when the team whitewashed the hosts in the three-match ODI series. Though he did not get to bat for a single time in the series, his cricketing acumen helped team sail through the waters.

But on Saturday, when the first match of the T20I series was played, team required Dhoni the batsman’s services for the first time on this tour. The skipper, though, faltered when it mattered as India suffered a shock defeat by two runs. With the team requiring eight runs of the last over and Dhoni being in the middle, it was expected to be a cakewalk. But the experience of playing in countless such situations did not count as India fell short eventually. Also Read: India tour of Zimbabwe 2016, 1st T20I, Pick of the tweets: Zimbabwe vs India at Harare

Nobody, simply nobody expected Zimbabwe to win. Even Atul Wassan, the presenter for the post-match ceremony, made a blooper when he almost invited Graeme Cremer for a chat in capacity of the losing captain. The Twitterati too did not mince their words and reacted to this ‘snatching-defeat-from-the-jaws-of-win’ effort of Team India. Some blasted the team, some criticised Dhoni, while others lauded the effort of Zimbabwe team. Check best of such tweets here:
