Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar have shared fiercest of rivalries on the cricket field in their playing days. But right from those days, they have been good friends outside cricket. Besides great camaraderie, both share mutual respect and tremendous admiration for each other. Now that they have retired, their mantle has been taken by other cricketers and in case of Tendulkar, Virat Kohli has been that player. Kohli has evolved as a cricketer and taken the role of his ‘idol’ Tendulkar in the side. He plays under the same burden of expectations that Tendulkar played and not just the fans, even his team at times seems to be over-reliant on him. Read: Cricket fraternity hails Virat Kohli and India’s win against Australia in ICC World T20 2016 on Twitter

On Sunday, Kohli produced another masterpiece to take India home in a must-win match and help his team secure a semi-final berth. Enroute his marvellous knock, he earned many new admirers and generous appreciation by the existing ones. Such was the aura of his innings that it reminded Warne of his friend Tendulkar, who used to torment the bowlers world-over and especially Australia, in the similar way. Few can forget his back-to-back masterful hundreds against Australia in Sharjah in 1998, and Warne is no different.

Warne and Tendulkar, who bonded over the sport of cricket, quite aptly decided to promote it and take it to places where it has not reached. In this quest, they initiated the ‘Cricket-All Stars’ last year, where the past legends of the game from their era came together to play in the United States of America (USA), where the game does not enjoy any substantial following. They have confirmed that they will continue with their initiative and the second season of the league will be played this year at a new venue which is alien to the game of cricket.
