Indian opener Virender Sehwag marked his presence at the India Day Parade in New York City on Sunday. Many celebrities and politicians were also seen in the iconic city to celebrate the 69th Indian Independence Day. Undoubtedly, it was one of the biggest parades outside India.

Earlier, there was a lot of fuss as Bollywood celebrities Arjun Rampal and Parineeti Chopra were given the honours of ‘Grand Marshal’ ahead of Sehwag. However, these things didn’t matter to the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ as he enjoyed his time at the parade.

Federation of Indian Association had organised the 35th India Day Parade in United States, which spurted through 20 lanes in Madison Avenue. The parade was a phenomenal exhibition of India’s culture outside India.

In a report from Mid-Day, Sehwag expressed his elation and honour by saying that it was a “great privilege and honor” for him to celebrate the Independence Day with companions form his country in a foreign land. As many people from countries of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are well settled in United States, Sehwag hopes that people will come across and form a US cricket team.

“I hope in the coming years there will be a US cricket team that plays international cricket soon,” Sehwag said.

A fan Anjali Suresh tweeted:

Later, in an interview with the reporters, the batting great expressed his pride.
