Why Rahul Dravid did not become the head coach of Team India
Thakur said that the board approached Dravid for the job but he turned it down.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, announced former Indian skipper Anil Kumble as India’s new head coach. The four-member advisory committee, which hails of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sandeep Jagdale conducted a selection process. After a lot of fuss, the air was cleared and Kumble was handed over the elite job for a span of one year. BCCI president, Anurag Thakur on this occasion revealed that Kumble was not the first choice for the high-prolife job. Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has been an inspiration on the field and has done reasonably well with the young guns. Thakur said that the board approached Dravid for the job but he turned it down.
“I requested Rahul Dravid to coach the Indian team. He didn’t say no, but said that he will work for the junior team. That is the good thing about Dravid, he didn’t go for the senior team post, big money and all. He wanted to work for the junior cricketers and not the senior team”, Thakur told NDTV. Dravid has donned the coach’s hat for the India ‘A’ and U-19 teams in the recent times and prefers to work at the grass root level. He opted for smaller jobs as he can’t be away from home for an elongated time.
