Dehradun: Hazratullah Zazai raised the temperatures at Dehradun with a thunderous 162* as Afghanistan blazed away to a world record 278/3 in the second Twenty20 International against Ireland at Dehradun on Sunday.

Zazai, who registered a maiden T20I century, is now second in the list of most number of runs in Twenty20 Internationals with Australia’s Aaron Finch occupying the first two spots with 172 and 156. (MORE RECORDS: Hazratullah Zazai cuts loose, Afghanistan demolish Ireland, T20I record books)

Opting to bat, there was no stopping Afghanistan, who are leading the three-match series 1-0. Zazai, the southpaw, didn’t spare any bowler and smashed 16 towering sixes and 11 boundaries during a breath-taking 62-ball stay at the crease. He was offered good support from Usman Ghani, who scored a scintillating 73 off 48, his innings studded with seven boundaries and three hits over the fence, before the dangerous looking partnership was brought to an end in the 105th delivery of the innings by Boyd Rankin.

Zazai, who was dropped on 72, by George Dockrell, meanwhile, went on a rampage as Afghanistan ended their first-innings with the highest ever T20 score.

Mohammad Nabi played a little cameo at the end adding 17 off 5 deliveries before he was dismissed by Joshua Little.

However, Zazai’s record knock was the highlight of the innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. 162 runs, 62 balls, 11 boundaries and 16 sixes, surely the story of the night.
