Alex Hales drops Sachin Tendulkar, picks Virender Sehwag in his All-time XI

Alex Hales picks Ricky Ponting as the captain and Kumar Sangakkara as wicket-keeper in his All-time XI team

England’s dashing opener Alex Hales who also scored a fantastic hundred against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the five-match series at Edgbaston, Birmingham has named his All-time XI team. But what might come as a surprise to many fans and experts in the game would be the fact that, Hales chose Virender Sehwag over Sachin Tendulkar in his team. However, Hales is himself a swashbuckling opener and likes to play attacking cricket and that might be the reason why he chose Sehwag and left out the legendary Tendulkar. Hales although did pick England’s Test team captain Alastair Cook in the All-time XI team of his. Hales in his team had Cook and Sehwag as openers. They were followed by former Australia captain Ricky Ponting who was also a great No.3 batsman. West Indies batting legend Brian Lara was the No.4 batsman in his team. Hales choice for the wicketkeeper-batsman slot was reserved for Sri Lanka’s batting great Kumar Sangakkara. Among the all-rounders Hales’ chose two superb players. One was former South Africa multi-talented cricketer Jacques Kallis and he was followed by Gary Sobers in Hales’ batting line-up. At No.8 Hales included former Australia leggie Shane Warne. Warne is among the greatest spin bowlers ever to have played the game. Hales put in another legendary spinner in Muttiah Muralitharan in his team. Among the fast bowlers Hales went with, the Sultan of swing bowling Wasim Akram and Australia’s Glenn McGrath who was throughtout his career acknowledged for his line and length.

Hales meanwhile, didn’t come out to open the innings for England in the fourth ODI at London against Sri Lanka. He was being treated for a back injury. His opening partner at Edgbaston, Jason Roy however was the star in his side’s win against the visitors after he scored 162 off 118 balls.
