According to reports, Australian selectors have chosen a delay in naming the replacement for injured Doug Bollinger until the latter stages of the World Cup.

Bollinger suffered an ankle injury during a warm-clash against India, which ruled him out of the World Cup.

Peter Siddle was expected to be named as the replacement after skipper Ricky Ponting declared roping in a fast bowler instead of a recovered Michael Hussey.

Chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch said, “It is obviously disappointing to lose Doug Bollinger from the World Cup squad through injury, however we have decided to delay the naming of a replacement for him until later in the tournament. Currently all our fast bowlers are fit and we have John Hastings in the squad ready to play if an opportunity presents itself.”

“We also have cover in the event of an injury to Brad Haddin or any one of the batsmen so there is seen to be no rush in making the decision. The National Selection Panel will make a decision as we approach the later stages of the tournament so we can select a replacement player who in our view will give us the best chance of success in the World Cup,” he added.

Australia will now take on Sri Lanka on Saturday, March 5 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
