New York: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was relieved to have logged their first win in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International stadium in New York on Tuesday. He said that they couldn’t complete their chase of 107 in a lesser number of overs because of the difficult pitch.

After suffering back-to-back defeats against the USA and India, Pakistan really needed to win against Canada otherwise their World Cup campaign would have been over.

Thanks to a great bowling display in particular from Mohammad Amir and Haris Rauf, Pakistan had to chase a modest target of 107 runs. Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 53 and Babar Azam’s knock of 33 managed to get Pakistan over the line in 17.3 overs.

“Good for us, we need this win. We started well with the bowling, in the first six overs we know we had to be up to the mark,” Babar said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“It was in our mind, to win before 14 overs but the pitch made it difficult,” added Babar.
