BBL: Ben Cutting, Max Bryant fire Brisbane Heat to massive 10-wicket win over Melbourne Stars

It was raining sixes at the Gabba in Brisbane. 158/0! That’s what Brisbane Heat’s scorecard read after the end of a crushing 10-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in a Big Bash League (BBL) match on Friday.
It took Ben Cutting and 19-year-old Max Bryant just 10 overs to chase down the 157-run target with Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn watching the mayhem unfold from the dugout as the opening pair pulled the Stars in an unbroken record partnership.
The massive win has shot up the Heat’s net run-rate to 0.249 with Stars left in a must-win position in the next match to make it to the knockouts. Sydney Thunder, who are in direct competition with the Heat, must win their next match by a huge margin. The only teams that have qualified now are Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades.
Cutting, who’s known for his big-hitting abilities clobbered eight huge hits over the fence and smashed four boundaries in his unbeaten 81 coming in just 30 deliveries. Cutting also registered the second-fastest BBL half-century – a 17-ball knock that’s right behind Chris Gayle’s 12-ball fifty. The other highlight was the hard-hitting righ-handed batsman Bryant, who tonked six boundaries and five sixes in his career-best 71 off just 30 deliveries.
The only consolation for Melbourne Stars came in Marcus Stoinis, who top scored with 81 off 51 – his innings laced with seven fours and two sixes. None of the other batsman registered any significant scores. Skipper Glenn Maxwell added just five before he lobbed it back to Josh Lalor. Star West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo was the next highest run-scorer with 21 off 16.
For the Heat, Lalor was the pick of the bowlers with three for 43 in his four overs.
