THE BOARD of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the top governing body of cricket in India, and the renowned cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra lost their respective verification ticks on the ‘X’ app, formerly known as Twitter.
Notably, the incident happened after both of them changed their profile picture to the Tricolour flag to show their support for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. This was started by the honorable Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the 77th Independence Day of India.
Reason Behind BCCI Losing Verification Tick
The ‘X’ has a policy that requires verified accounts to use their genuine names and profile pictures. The BCCI’s account was verified under the name “BCCI” and had the logo of the Indian cricket team as their profile picture. But when the BCCI changed its profile picture to the Indian tricolor which possibly led to the loss of their verification tick.
Earlier, the BCCI had a blue tick on their Twitter page. However, following its $44 billion acquisition, Elon Musk changed the platform’s model. As per the new policy, gold ticks are given to verified or official organizations. As the BCCI is an independent organization, it got a gold tick instead of a blue one.
