BCCI accepts Rahul Dravid’s pay parity proposal

In February, Dravid had expressed reservations about accepting higher pay in comparison to the support staff and the players.

When India had won the 2018 U-19 World Cup title in January, BCCI had rewarded INR 50 lakhs to Rahul Dravid and INR 20 lakhs to the support staff. As for the players, they were given INR 30 lakhs. In February, Dravid had expressed reservations about accepting higher pay in comparison to the support staff and the players. Dravid was even lauded for his decision on various platforms of social media.

Dravid had discussed the proposal of equal pay when he met BCCI CEO Rahul Johri on February 14. He, in fact, wanted BCCI to reward even those who have been associated with India U-19 side much before the World Cup.

In an interaction with media in India soon after the World Cup, Dravid had said, “It was great team work, guys behind the scenes, the selectors, NCA, the BCCI setting up games and series. Winning a tournament like this is a good reflection of the team work.”

BCCI has, finally, agreed to Dravid’s request. His initial reward of INR 50 lakhs has been halved to INR 25 lakhs. The remaining back staff would also be receiving INR 25 lakhs as opposed to 20 lakhs, as reported on Indian Express.

India had won a record fourth U-19 title under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw defeating three-time World Cup  (U-19) champions Australia. The tournament saw the emergence of several youngsters who will be soon seen playing in the upcoming IPL.
