Ben Stokes’ impressive performance against Australia has impressed England one-day coach Ashley Giles, who says the young pacer has done his chances no harm in securing an Ashes berth which starts in November in Australia.
Stokes picked up his maiden five-for (five for 61) in the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) against Australia at The Rose Bowl. Giles, the England selector was happy with the performances of Stokes, Boyd Rankin, Jos Buttler and debutant Chris Jordan reported NDTV.
England rested Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann and tried a few youngsters. The idea behind resting these players was to keep them fresh before the return Ashes in November this year.
Giles said that Stokes achievement of picking five-for against Australia is ‘brilliant’. The Durham all-rounder stitched a match-winning partnership with Buttler in the fourth ODI at Cardiff. Giles said that Stokes has been on the radar since the past couple of years and he is an exciting cricketer. Giles told reporters that Stokes was extremely mature in the Australia ODI series.
