Bengal to tour Sri Lanka for pre-season matches

CAB has asked all their top cricketers to make themselves available for selection.

The Bengal domestic team will be touring Sri Lanka in this month to play two four-day and three one-day matches. This is part of their preparations for the upcoming Indian domestic season. All the senior members of Bengal are expected to be part of this tour, which is starting from August 25. The newly appointed coach of Bengal, Sairaj Bahutule will join the team on this tour. It was learnt that this pre-season tour is a brainchild of Sourav Ganguly, who is currently the Joint-Secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). CAB has asked all their top cricketers to make themselves available for selection. The squad will be selected on Monday. Laxmi Ratan Shukla is likely to lead the team in the island nation. Last season there were a lot of criticism of his captaincy. So, as this tour will be a test of his leadership skills as well. Pragyan Ojha, who shifted form Hyderabad to Bengal this year, is also expected to be a part of this squad. READ: Pragyan Ojha to represent Bengal in domestic cricket

Bengal will start their assignment in Ranji Trophy 2014-15 against the defending champions Karnataka at Bangalore, form October 8. Delhi, Haryana, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Odisha and Assam are the other team’s with Bengal in Group A. Their Vijay Hazare (Domestic One-Day) campaign will be starting from December 10 with a match against Goa at Rajkot. In Mushtaq Ali trophy (Domestic T20) Bengal will play their first game against Hyderabad at Nagpur on January 2.
