Former India allrounder Yuvraj Singh struggled to make an impact with the bat on his debut in the Global T20 Canada 2019, scoring 14 off 27 balls in Toronto Nationals‘ eight-wicket loss to Vancouver Knights in Brampton, Ontario.

Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket last month, was making his debut as a freelancer T20 player after being named skipper of Toronto Nationals for season two of the Canada Global T20. Batting at No 4, Yuvraj failed to hit a single boundary and his sluggish innings came after the Nationals had lost two wickets.

The team ended with 159/5 courtesy Heinrich Klaasen’s 41 off 20 balls and Kieron Pollard’s unbeaten 30 from 13, including three sixes and two fours, but that total did prove strong enough.

Despite losing Chris Gayle – who chose the Canada GLT20 instead of West Indies’ three-match T20I series with India next month – and Tobias Visee inside five over, the Knights sped to their target in 17.2 overs. Chadwick Walton cracked four fours and four sixes during his unbeaten 59 from 35 balls and Rassie van der Dussen hit four fours and three sixes in making 65 not out off 43 balls.
