Former England Women captain Charlotte Edwards has joined Sky Sports commentary team for the upcoming limited-overs series between England Women and Pakistan Women. Charlotte had retired from international cricket recently after having represented England Women in 191 One-Day Internationals (ODI), 95 T20 Internationals (T20I) and 23 Tests after she made her debut in 1996. England Women will play three ODIs against Pakistan Women between June 20 to June 27. Thses three matches will be followed by a series of three-match T20I series, beginning from July 3 to July 7. She has scored 5,992 runs in ODIs and 2,605 runs in T20Is. She recently led England in the recently concluded ICC Women World T20 2016 in India. Edwards was named ICC Women’s cricketer of the year in 2008 and was also awarded MBE in 2009 for her contribution to cricket. She became only the second women cricketer to be named as one of the Wisden’s five cricketers of the year in 2014, according to skysports.com. Speaking on her decision to retire from international cricket, Edwards said, ”I leave very proud of the standing in which the women’s game is held and of my contribution as a player and captain. It’s the right time for a new captain to lead the team forward.” While no official announcement has been made regarding the new captain, the current vice-captain Heather Knight is expected to take over.
