England Women’s skipper Charlotte Edwards has been chosen to lead Southern Vipers in the inaugural Kia Super League. The T20 competition will be held from July 30 to August 14, and will involve six teams. Oval, Old Trafford, Headingly are few of the venues where the matches will take place. Edwards national teammate Sarah Taylor will be seen skippering Lancashire Thunder. Also, Natalia Sciver and Heather Knight will be seen captaining Surrey Stars and Western Storm respectively. Speaking about the league, Edwards said,” “With three or four England players, plus three overseas players, per squad, the standard of the Super League is going to be very high; exactly what’s needed to take our game forwards.”

“I’m really excited and happy to be a Southern Viper. The Ageas Bowl is somewhere that I’ve always enjoyed playing and I have particularly fond memories of winning the Women’s Ashes there in 2013. I’ve also done a lot of work in the area with the Hampshire Cricket Board and Chance to Shine, so it’s somewhere that I already feel really at home,” reported sport24.

This tournament is seen as an way to address the fitness issues, which was criticized by England’s head coach Mark Robinson, after his side’s loss to Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2016. The tournament has already seen 19 English players signed up.
