The encounter between Sri Lanka and West Indies saw a funny piece of event take place, as Chris Gayle was stopped from coming to bat by umpire Ian Gould. The incident took place after the first ball of the 15th over, as Andre Fletcher nicked a Dushmantha Chameera ball to the wicket-kepper, Dinesh Chandimal, who caught it diving forward. There was confusion in the middle, as umpire were not sure, and referred the call with the third umpire. By the time, Chris Gayle got all padded up and ready to walk in the middle, much to the delight of the crowd present at Chinnaswamy stadium. But suddenly, umpire Ian Gould came from behind the side-screen and informed Chris Gayle about the not-out decision. Gayle was then shepherd back to the pavilion, much to the dismay of batsman and crowd alike. Full Scorecard: Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 21st T20 Match, Super 10 Group 1
Earlier, an much needed knock by Thisara Perera helped Sri Lanka reach a total of 122/9 in 20 overs. With the pitch tough to bat on, Sri Lanka got off to a decent start, scoring 30 runs in the first four overs. But soon, spin was introduced, which blew away the Sri Lankan batsmen one by one. Apart from the openers, only Angelo Mathews(20) and Perera(40) got into the double figures. Samuel Badree utilized the conditions to his maximum, ending with 3 wickets for 12 in his four overs. Dwayne Bravo also chipped in with his bowling, scalping 2 wickets in his four overs. But West Indies got a scare, as Chris Gayle left the field with a twinge in his hamstring.

In their reply, West Indies promoted Fletcher to the top order in the absence of Gayle. Fletcher got going from the word go, taking on Mathews for a four and a six in the first over. The over set the tone for the rest of his innings, as he ended up with an unbeaten 84 to guide West Indies home. While the other batsmen were struggling from one end, Fletcher was taking on the bowlers from the other end. He got a major reprieve when he was adjudged not out of Chameera’s bowling by the third umpire in the 16th over. He then, with the company of Andre Russell, guided West Indies home with 10 balls to spare.
