The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) which recognises top performers in the English circuit with awards on an annual basis have bestowed fast-bowler Chris Rushworth and upcoming Surrey young bowler Tom Curran with top honours for their efforts in the 2015 county season. Rushworth bagged the prestigious PCA player of the year title, while 20-year-old Curran claimed the PCA young player award. Both awardees took their overall wicket tally in the 2015 county season to three figures. VIDEO: Chris Rushworth takes 15 wickets against Northamptonshire

Rushworth took a round total of 100 wickets for Durham, with 83 of those coming in the First-Class County Championship. Curran’s tally surpassed Rushworth’s by five and his efforts helped Surrey clinch the Division Two County Championship. After October, the South African-born Curran will become eligible to play for England, reported bbc.co.uk. ALSO READ: Surrey crowned Division Two winners after draw against Leicestershire

35-year-old Australian Michael Klinger’s splendid performance for Gloucestershire in limited-overs cricket was recognised with awards for both the One-Day Cup as well as the T20 Blast. Klinger scored a sum of 1,185 runs in both those formats across the English summer.

Rushworth’s efforts puts him in serious contention for a England call up and he is hopeful of the same. “To be voted for by fellow players and your peers is a very privileged moment and one I’m very proud of,” Rushworth said. “The guys that have won it in recent years have gone on to play Test cricket so that is definitely in my sights. Hopefully I have another good season next year and I can put my name in the hat for Test selection.”
