Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday paid tribute to the country’s women cricket team, the Southern Stars, after they claimed their third consecutive ICC Women’s World T20 title in Bangladesh.
CA chief executive officer James Sutherland said the triumph over England in the final on Sunday demonstrated Australia‘s continued excellence in the shortest form of the game.
“CA congratulates every member of the Southern Stars who have created history by capturing a hat-trick of ICC Women’s World Twenty20 titles,” Sutherland said.
“Three in a row is an extraordinary achievement and of course this does not come about without a huge amount of hard work.
“Champion teams save their best for big occasions and the team’s performance in the final was something very special.
“We are incredibly proud of the entire group. They are outstanding role models and are doing a fine job promoting cricket as a sport of choice for talented female sportspeople across the nation.”
