Mumbai batsmen make a name for themselves as they survive the fearsome fast bowlers Trent Boult and Neil Wagner. The only wicket that fell today was of Armaan Jaffer who got out after scoring his half-century. Jaffer made 69 runs from 123 balls with the help of 9 fours and a six. He looked in phenomenal touch today, barely beaten by any bowler. He showed glimpses of his uncle Wasim Jaffer while playing shots at the start of the day when the fast bowlers would have done the damage. He was well supported by opener Kaustubh Pawar who tried to stay at the crease despite struggling to score runs at a rapid rate. Pawar has been able to score 37 runs from 119 balls at a strike-rate of 31/09 with the help of 6 fours.
But the main talking point of the warm-up game as the play resumes after lunch will be Rohit Sharma who has played a single ball of Ish Sodhi after he took the wicket of Jaffer getting a snick past him in the hands of the wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi. Pawar survived a fiery spell of Doug Bracewell who tried to bowl bouncers to him and making life very tough for him on the crease.
Interesting field placing was seen by Kane Williamson as he used two short-legs when Bracewell was bowling. After that he used two short-covers when off-spinner Mark Craig was bowling. Though, he could not get through the defense of the batsmen. Mitchell Santner came into bowl for the first time on Day Two and the innings. He was welcomed by Jaffer hitting him for two boundaries. Only Sodhi managed to get a wicket and break the 107-run partnership between Jaffer and Pawar.
Brief Scores:
New Zealand 324 for 7 (Tom Latham 55, Kane Williamson 50; Balwinder Sandhu 2 for 21, Siddhesh Lad 1 for 34) lead Mumbai 107 for 2 (Arman Jaffer 69, Kaustubh Pawar 37; Ish Sodhi 1 for 10, Trent Boult 1 for 18) by 217 runs.
