Doug Bollinger calls time on his cricketing career

Doug Bollinger called it a day from all forms of cricket. Bollinger, 36, played 12 Tests, 39 ODIs, and 9 T20Is, taking 121 wickets. His only two five-wicket hauls in Tests came against West Indies and New Zealand.

Bollinger’s cricketing career blossomed when he started playing for New South Wales since 2002. “My first captain for NSW was Steve Waugh, which was unbelievable. I played under some great captains and players for NSW and Australia including Steve, Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting. To play for 15 or 16 seasons with the SCG as my home ground has been amazing,” said Bollinger in a report published by The Guardian.

Cricket NSW CEO chief Andrew Jones said that Bollinger was a larger-than-life presence on and off the field. “Finishing his career as ninth on the list of NSW First-Class wicket-takers and playing all three forms of the game for Australia is a remarkable achievement given he did not play cricket until he was 15.”

Bollinger was named in ICC’s ODI and Test teams of the year in 2010. The last time he represented Australia was in a T20I match against South Africa in 2014.
