England have announced the 14-man squad for the fourth Ashes Test, set to be played from July 19 in Manchester. The squad remains the same that featured in the third Test at Headingley, Leeds.
The Ashes 2023 has been a thrilling series, with all three games going down to the wire. Australia won two close contests at Edgbaston and Lord’s before England pulled one back at Headingley to keep the series alive.

England had an opportunity to tinker with the combination, with Ben Foakes in the fray, especially with Jonny Bairstow not in the best of form. However, the team backed the destructive batter for the Manchester Test. Ollie Robinson also managed to retain the place which was in doubt after the pacer walked out of the field after bowling just 12 overs on Day 1 and missed the majority of the Headingley Test.
It will be interesting to see if James Anderson gets a chance to represent the team at his home ground. Anderson was rested from the third Test in Headingley and is raring to go, however, the veteran understands that the team will pick the squad as per conditions. Anderson said he will have no regrets if he misses out on a spot in the team.
“They will pick the strongest team to compete with Australia that particular week. I am completely happy with whatever they decide.
“I know I am not guaranteed to play the next Test and I will completely understand if they want to stick with the winning team. The selection side is out of my hands. I just make sure that I am in a good place and ready to play,” Anderson had written in his column for The Telegraph.
Ben Stokes Hints James Anderson’s Return To The Playing 11
England captain Ben Stokes though hinted that the ace pacer could be back for the 4th Test.
“We were very open and honest and clear with each other before the series started that it’s going to be very tough to ask the bowlers to play every game this summer. It’s a good chance for Jimmy to rest up and then get ready to charge in from the Jimmy Anderson End at Old Trafford next week,” Stokes had said.
