England Women’s cricketer Lydia Greenway retires from international cricket

Greenway is a four-time Ashes winner and a two-time world champion.

England’s Lydia Greenway, a four-time Ashes winner and two-time world champion, announced her retirement from international cricket on Wednesday. Greenway, 30, scored over 4,000 international runs in 225 appearances, playing in four successful Ashes campaigns and twice winning the World Cup. “During recent discussions with (England coach) Mark Robinson about his focus on developing new players against Pakistan this summer, it became clear that my involvement with the England team might be limited moving forwards,” Greenway said. “While in the past I have been in a similar position and have fought for my place, I now feel that at this stage in my life, it’s time to take a step back and retire from international cricket with immediate effect, allowing the next generation of players to develop on the world stage.”

Greenway, who will continue to play domestic cricket, follows England captain Charlotte Edwards in retiring from the international game.

Greenway has played in 126 One Day Internationals (ODI’s) and has scored 2554 runs at an average of 30.04. Her highest score in ODI’s is 125 not out.

She made her Test debut against Australia Women at Brisbane in Februrary 2003. She made her ODI debut against South Africa Women at Chelmsford on August 13, 2003.  She played her last T20 match against Australia Women at Delhi in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2016. Her last ODI was against South Africa Women Centurion in February 2016.
