Faf du Plessis might miss a few matches during South Africa’s tour of England, possibly the first Test at Lord’s. South Africa will play a bilateral series as well as take part in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Du Plessis is carrying a shoulder injury — he is the only injured player in the side — and he is also expecting the birth of his first child with wife Imari. Du Plessis took the opportunity to announce the news on his Instagram account when the couple attended the recently-organised Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards. Du Plessis featured in only two games of this season’s IPL for his franchise Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Faf du Plessis to retire following ICC Cricket World Cup 2019?
He only played a single innings and scored a mere 8. The South Africa team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee was quoted as saying by sport24.co.za, “The only guy that is carrying an injury in the 15-man squad is Faf.” The team management is hopeful that du Plessis will be fit ahead of the first ODI which begins on May 24 at Leeds. Moosajee further added, “A plan is in place to have him ready for the first ODI against England. We are not sure about the warm-up games yet, we’ll probably assess (his injury) once we get to the UK and take it from there.”
In all possibility, the baby will arrive when South Africa and England will be involved in the first Test at Lord’s, which increases the possibility of the Protea captain missing the match.
