Mumbai: Nov 2, 2011

Former India captain Ajit Wadekar released the book written by ex-Cricket Board secretary Jaywant Lele titled ‘I Was There – Memoirs of a Cricket Administrator’ in Mumbai on Wednesday.

“Lele has always been thorough with the Board’s constitution, rules and regulations as well as cricket umpiring. He can take anybody to task,” said Wadekar before releasing the book.

Another former India skipper Chandu Borde, who was the chief guest, recalled his association with the Baroda-based retired administrator since 1952.

“When I was coach-cum-manager of the U-19 team to England in 1981, Lele was the assistant manager. It is not easy to serve under four BCCI Presidents as secretary. I’m happy he has come out with a book,” said the Pune-based Borde.

Former India opener Anshuman Gaekwad, who came down to attend the function from Baroda, said Lele had helped him a lot in his cricket career.

Speaking about the book, Lele said, “There are interesting or mafia-type things in the book.”
