Haroon Lorgat: Hope Indian players will be part of Global T20 league someday

Lorgat hopes at some point Indian T20 specialists will take part in the tournament as well.

BCCI’s decision to not play Boxing Day Test on its tour of South Africa has left the CSA disappointed but the South African board does not want to sulk over this and move on. The relations between the 2 boards haven’t been the best in recent times. However CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat did express his disappointment for the same. “We are disappointed that India won’t be playing the Boxing Day Test because of their own tight schedule which is going into the far end of December by the time the Sri Lankan home series gets over. I believe BCCI too has it’s own challenges as far as scheduling is concerned. We have been working for last 18 months and waiting for confirmation from the Indian board,” Lorgat was quoted as saying in a report from Cricbuzz. South Africa are all set for its Global T20 League, which is due to be played in the IPL style with 8 franchises participating. Lorgat hopes at some point Indian T20 specialists will take part in the tournament as well.

“We are happy that all top T20 players from different countries are going to take part in the tournaments. If the Indians walk into this league, it would be good for world cricket and of course for the league. There are 13 countries taking part in the league and I hope the Indians will some day be part of our T20 league,” Lorgat added also mentioning that BCCI’s decision of not allowing their players to play outside IPL is something beyond CSA’s control.

However, Lorgat wants the support of South African stakeholders and also wants to rope in Indian sponsors. He assures the league is going to be like the “World Cup cricket carnival” every year.
