THE SECOND Test between India and West Indies at the Queens Park Oval here was declared a draw after heavy rain washed out play on the fifth day of the match on Monday. India won the two-match series 1-0.
The bad weather did spoil the fun for fans in the second Test but Indian team will be happy with their performance in the series. Indian skipper got a century in the first Test and then two fifties in the second Test. Jaiswal smashed a scintillating ton on his debut and then a fifty in the second Test.
Kohli fell short of his century in the first match but managed to smash his 76th International ton in his 500th match. Ishan Kishan managed to have an impressive outing with the bat too. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravichandran Ashwin were the stars with the ball.
Zaheer Khan Picks Player Of The Series
Sirah was awarded with the player of the match in the second Test, his first in the red-ball format. However, surprisingly there was no announcement of the Player of the Series award.
Former Indian pacer, Zaheer Khan picked Ravichandran Ashwin for that following his terrific all-round performance throughout the two Tests.
He said”He picked up that 10-fer, he was the main wrecker-in-chief, got 15 wickets, got a fifty as well. He had a terrific series. Virat (Kohli), Rohit (Sharma) and Yashasvi (Jaiswal) scored runs, but the main guy, who helped India get a result, was right up with his performance. My Man of the Series would have been Ashwin.”
It was a disappointing end for India as they had held the upper hand throughout the match. India, who had scored 438 and 181/2 declared in their two innings had reduced West Indies, chasing a target of 365, to 76/2 in their second innings at stumps on day four. The hosts, who scored 255 in their first innings, needed 290 runs to win the match.
On the fifth and final day, India were aiming for their bowlers to claim the remaining eight wickets needed in whatever time left in the match for pocketing another 12 points and adding more to their glowing start to the 2023-25 World Test Championship style. But in the end, the rain did not give them that opportunity as it rained relentlessly and the match ended in a draw.
