Heather Knight, England Women‘s captain has become the first woman cricketer to take a five-wicket haul and at the same time score a half century in a Women’s One-Day International (ODI) match. She achieved this feat during England Women vs Pakistan Women 2016, first ODI match. Her brilliant performance helped England Women win by 7 wickets with 109 balls to spare. Pakistan Women looked helpless against Knight. English skipper’s bowling figures were 8.4-1-26-5. She was also very economical as her economy rate was only 3. After her excellent bowling display, she then helped the English team in the batting department as well. Knight scored an unbeaten 50-run knock off 70 balls hitting five boundaries. Her knock was played under pressure as England were two-down when there were just 33 runs on the board. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: England Women vs Pakistan Women 2016, 1st ODI at Leicester
No woman cricketer has been able to achieve this particular feat which Knight has accomplished. There are however a few women cricketers who have scored a half century and also picked up four wickets. Hence, this record was long awaited. Women cricketers who have succeeded in picking up four or more wickets and simultaneously also score a fifty in an ODI are Eileen Badham, Clare Nicholson, Cri-Zelda Brits, Urooj Mumtaz, Charlotte Edwards, Stafanie Taylor (on two occasions), Ellyse Perry, and Knight (in the current match). 25-year-old Knight will be very happy with her performance since she led from the front and helped England take a thumping victory. English fans will be hoping that Knight continues to perform this way in the upcoming matches as well. READ: Heather Knight named England Women captain
