ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016: Spinners lead Bangladesh to emphatic victory over Scotland

Bangladesh Under 19 team achieved a resounding win over Scotland Under 19 as Saleh Ahmed Shawon, Ariful Islam stars.

Bangladesh Under-19 defending a total of 256 runs managed to bowl out Scotland Under-19 for 142 runs. Scotland were bowled out for just The star for Bangladesh was left-arm orthodox bowler Saleh Ahmed Shawon who managed to pick up three wickets in his 10 overs . Shawon was able to spin a web around Scotland batsmen as they were looking anything but comfortable against him. Another left-arm orthodox bowler who did well was Ariful Islam, who picked up two crucial wickets. Shawon victims included Jack Waller, Finlay McCreath and Haris Aslam, Waller was a key wicket as he was batting solid in his innings of 24 runs. Azeem Dar was the lone ranger for Scotland, standing tall till the very end achieving his fifty. Dar was also the last wicket to fall for Scotland as Mohammad Saifuddin got Dar caught by star of the bowling innings Shawon. Saifuddin cleaned up all the lower order batsmen picking Harris Carnegie who also got bowled through the gate along with Mitchel Rao. Rao also felt the same fate getting stumped by Saifuddin. Scotland U19 winning the toss elected to field first, putting a full on confidence Bangladesh U19 team into bat. Bangladesh team had in their first match defeated defending champions South Africa by 43 runs. Bangladesh got off to ta bad start losing opening batsmen Pinak Ghosh for a duck as Mohammad Ghaffar caught him on the pads. Ghaffar was again in action as he struck second time pick Joyraz Sheik for 13 runs.  It was Saif Hassan and Nazmul Hossain Shanto partnership of 55 runs that provided the much needed solidity to their innings. Saif was unlucky to miss –out on a well deserved fifty getting out on 49, getting bowled by Mitchell Rao.

Shanto who started out slow was quick to up his run-rate and smashed his way to a well struck hundred off as many balls. In his innings of 113 he hit 10 boundaries. Captain Mehedi Hasan played a blistering knock of 51 runs in just 49 balls providing the much needed acceleration. Mehedi hit a total of 4 four’s. Saeed Sarkar on-slaught in the penultimate over did manage to get unto 256. Nazmul Hossain Shanto also became the highest run-scorer in Under-19 one-day matches after this innings of 113*. For Scotland it was Mohammad Ghaffar who was the pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets for 60 runs.

With this win Bangladesh Under-19 team has also qualified for the quarter-finals stage after earlier defeating defending champions South Africa in the opening match.Nazmul Hossain Shanto has become the highest run-scorer in Under-19 one-day matches after a stellar century against Scotland
