England stormed into ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 final by beating South Africa by 2 wickets. They awaited the winners of India and Australia from the second semi-finals, and will now lock horns with the former to regain the coveted title that they last won in 2009. England had won the championship under Charlotte Edwards and the former skipper believes the current England side are favourites to lift the title on Sunday. Terming the India-England final as a exciting game, she believes the World Cup has done and the sold-out Lord’s final will be an emphatic day in women’s cricket.
“England would have wanted to play India rather than Australia and with a full house at Lord’s and the home support it will receive, it should push it over the line towards that trophy. For England, everything seems to be falling into place to win this World Cup. Lord’s is known worldwide as the Home of Cricket and that sometimes bites England on the rear because other sides raise their game when they play there. England’s record at Lord’s isn’t great, apart in World Cup finals”, Edwards wrote in her column for ICC.

“I think England will win the final, but I’ve been wrong to write off India before in this competition. I hope it’s an exciting game that’s fitting of a Lord’s final and the amazing tournament we’ve witnessed so far,” she stated.But it’s not just about England. We can be proud of how far women’s cricket has come, the health of the game globally and India’s contribution to this tournament. This World Cup has already done wonders for women’s cricket, but to have a full house at Lord’s for the final makes it one hell of an occasion for the sport. We’ve got England as the host country playing against India who has the biggest reach in terms of the global television audience and following. It’s going to be the most watched game in women’s cricket history and a fantastic day all round”, added Edwards.
