England Women have beaten Bangladesh Women by seven wickets in rain-hit match at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in St Lucia, with the debutant spinner Kirstie Gordon claiming 3/16 in a low-scoring affair. England finally got a win to their name, following the washout with Sri Lanka, by restricting Bangladesh to 76/9 in 20 overs before they were declared winners on the Duckworth-Lewis method when rain interrupted their chase in the 10th over. Opting to field, England reduced Bangladesh to 3/2 before Gordon’s left-arm spin added to the opposition’s challenges. Barring Ayasha Rahman who top-scored with 39 from 52 balls, three of the top four made zeroes and only two others reached double-figures. Among Gordon’s scalps were Ayasha and Rumana Ahmed, who made 10. Anya Shrubsole (1/14 in four overs), the other debutant Linsey Smith (1/17 in four), Natalie Sciver (1/7 in three) and Sophie Ecclestone (1/20) in four also contributed to keep Bangladesh to 76/9. England’s chase began poorly with Danni Wyatt out first ball, but England reached a revised target of 64 with 39 balls left to be bowled. Amy Jones made 28 not out off 24 balls to finish the job, with Sciver contributing 23 off 17. England now top Group A of the Women’s World Twenty20 with Bangladesh at last with two losses. "It's been a bit difficult watching the rain all day against Sri Lanka, but we were optimistic this morning that we'd get a game in. I've been working hard on getting a good start which calms your nerves," said Gordon, who was named Player of the Match on debut. "I didn't know I was definitely going to play today as I was told I'd play if it was a full 20 overs, but if it was a reduced game, the team might change." Brief scores: England Women 64/3 in 9.3 overs (Jones 28, Salma 2/17) beat Bangladesh Women 76/9 in 20 overs (Ayasha 39, Gordon 3/16) by seven wickets
