Claire Polosak of Australia is all set to make history with the upcoming ICC World T20 2016 in India. As the ICC Women’s World T20 2016 take place along-side the men’s event in March and April, Polosak, along with New Zealand‘s Kathleen Cross will stand as on-field umpires. They will thus become the first two female umpires to officiate in ICC World T20. 27-year-old Polosak has previously been a part of the history as she became the first female third umpire during a Australia senior men’s match officiating in Matador BBQ’s One-Day cup match in Sydney and will again be a part of the history, this time for international matches. Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, in an interview to cricket.com.au, wished Polosak saying, “Claire’s dedication and love of the game shines through as her officiating continues to go from strength to strength. Her historic debut in the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup as third umpire late last year and now featuring in such a prestigious ICC tournament is an inspiration to other aspiring female cricket umpires.”
The lady herself was caught saying, “It’s ultimately about working your way through the pathway but at the moment I’m just concentrating on being the best I am for the game that’s in front of me. If I continue to work hard the opportunities will come. There is a really good statistic that there has been more astronauts than there has been Test umpires. So it’s a very tight tunnel to get through. But like the players you always want to go to the next level if possible.”
