ICL to hold trials in Delhi

New Delhi: The Magpie Sports Group (MSG), will hold trials to select players for the upcoming Indian Champions League (ICL) in the capital on Sunday. The ICL, to be organised on the lines of the Masters Champions League (MCL), will be a franchisee based Twenty20 cricket tournament slated to be held in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament is being organised by the Magpie Sports Group. “We want to select players from the Ranji Trophy, first class and U-19 levels. “Once players are selected for all the teams, all the ICL matches will be played in Dubai,” he added. “The trials will be held at the Parmarth Ground, Bhagwan Mahaveer Hospital Road in Pitampura.” Each ICL team will include four national level players. The tournament format will comprise a total of 52 matches, including the two semi-finals and the final, with eight franchises playing six matches each in the league stage. Earlier, The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday rejected media reports of having signed a deal with the newly floated Indian Champions League (ICL) T20 tournament comprising of retired former cricketers, scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reported PTI.

The league’s promoters Magpie Group had claimed that they had signed a three-year deal with ICC but the world cricket’s global body has categorically rejected any such claims. “Reports claiming that the ICL has signed a three-year deal with the ICC are baseless and factually inaccurate. The ICC has neither given permission to the ICL to stage the event in the UAE nor it has the authority to sanction such events,” an ICC spokesman told PTI on Tuesday, added PTI.
