Reports on Imran Khan‘s divorce spread across media, social and otherwise, like wildfire. Imran, currently party chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had tied the knot for the third time in February. He married his spiritual guide Bushra Maneka. Now rumours surfaced that Bushra, who moved into Bani Gala, the residence of Imran Khan in Islamabad, had a heated argument and moved back to her maternal home at Pakpattan, Punjab, and media pounced upon it gleefully. Times of Islamabad claimed Imran’s pet dogs to be the reason. Another rumour suggests Imran was irritated with Bushra’s children staying in Bani Gala for too long. Yet another claimed that Imran was asked to provide air tickets for Maneka’s children, which he refused.
India Today reports that an Urdu daily first reported the rumour. PTI (the party, not thew news agency) confirmed the India Today on the false news. They slammed the outlets and called the reports false, adding that the news were published without consulting the party or Imran. A notice was issued to Roznama Ummat, an Urdu daily, where PTI slammed the editor for publishing rumours and demanded an apology and a report denying the news. Other Pakistani media outlets that have covered the story have been asked to take the stories down or face legal actions.

The PTI leadership has also questioned the credibility and objectivity of journalism practiced as media outlets that published the news have not verified the same.
