On the opening day of the third Test match in Rajkot on Thursday, England fast bowler Mark Wood delivered a blistering bouncer that stunned Indian captain Rohit Sharma. In the tenth over of the Indian innings, Wood unleashed a devastating ball that bounced off Rohit’s helmet and smashed into the grill. The bounce the ball was able to get off the pitch caught Rohit off guard. Wood quickly checked on the hitter, asking if he was okay. After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rajat Patidar cheaply in the opening session, India had a rough start to their innings.

After winning the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat.

Ben Stokes, the England captain, is playing in his 100th Test match. “Time flies when you’re having fun,” the 32-year-old said at the toss.

With the five-match series levelled at 1-1, India made four changes to their lineup, giving batsman Sarfaraz Khan and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel their Test debuts.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj joined the team again. Virat Kohli will miss the entire series due to ‘personal reasons’ while his fellow batter KL Rahul still hasn’t completely recovered after an injury.

After England won the first Test by 28 runs, India won the second Test by 104 runs to level the series.

On Wednesday, England said that spinner Shoaib Bashir will be replaced by pace bowler Mark Wood.

After recuperating from knee surgery, all-rounder Stokes is participating in the series as a batter. Since making his Test debut in 2013, he has amassed 6,251 runs and claimed 197 wickets.

Two further milestones might be reached in the contest.

England seamer James Anderson needs five more victims to take 700 Test wickets, while India’s Ravichandran Ashwin only needs one more to reach 500.
