Following their impressive 2-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka in the just-concluded three T20Is, India have moved ahead of the likes of England, New Zealand and West Indies to occupy the second spot in ICC T20I rankings. Pakistan continue to dominate with 124 rating points, but the arch-rivals are closing on the gap with 121 rating points. New Zealand and West Indies — scheduled to meet for three T20Is — are placed at the third and fourth spot respectively. Kiwis are ahead of two-time World Cup winning Caribbean side on the basis of decimal points.
India played three T20Is versus Sri Lanka in the absence of regular skipper, Virat Kohli. Kohli sat out due to his marriage, and Rohit Sharma led the national side for the first time. After a 2-1 ODI series victory, Rohit-led India toppled Sri Lanka in all the T20Is. While the first two matches were a complete one-sided affair, the ‘dead rubber’ at Wankhede Stadium went to the last over. In pursuit of 136, India were made to work hard but attained the target with 5 wickets and 4 balls to spare.
