India playing at Swalec Stadium is always special, says Glamorgan chief Hugh Morris

Morris feels India playing at Swalec Stadium will help showcase the venue to the world.

Glamorgan chief Hugh Morris said it’s special when a team like India are the visitors at Cardiff. The Swalec Stadium is going to host the second One-Day International (ODI) of the India, England five-match bilateral series.

“The club has got used to hosting international cricket but it is always special when India are in town,” said the former Glamorgan and England opener. There will be millions of people watching and it presents a really good chance to showcase the Swalec Stadium and Welsh cricket,” Morris was quoted as saying by South Wales Argus.

“India won the last World Cup and the Champions Trophy; they have got a very strong one-day side led by MS Dhoni, who is one of the best one-day cricketers of all time. But England will be looking to develop ahead of next year’s World Cup and it was really good to see how they turned things around in the Test series. They will be really buoyant and it promises to be a terrific occasion.”

Morris said he is glad to see two players formerly associated with Glamorgan in the Indian camp. Ravi Shastri played for the club between 1987-1991 and Fletcher once coached the club. “It will be great to see two ‘Welshmen’ at the helm! Ravi is hugely respected throughout the cricketing world and I know that he had a great time when he was down here and lived in Sully.

“And Duncan is a hugely successful international cricket coach with a vast amount of knowledge about the game. It will be interesting to see how their partnership works out,” Morris concluded.
